Description

For dogs with sensitive or itchy skin – YuDERM Itching Dog is a Omega 3 & 6 fatty acid supplement developed for dogs with sensitive or itchy skin. It helps calm sensitive skin, reduces itching and scratching and supports skin health. It combines high levels of Omega 6 (GLA) from Starflower (Borage) with increased levels of Omega 3 (EPA and DHA) from high purity Salmon oil help to soothe the urge to itch. It supports skin health with high levels of essential Omega 3, ALA, from Golden Flax seed to balance the Omega 6 pathway and support coat condition. Added natural Vitamin E from plant sources support the skin?s natural defences.

YuDERM Itching Dog supplies key essential fatty acids? Linoleic Acid (LA) is an important component of skin barrier function as it is a major component of the phospholipid bi-layer. It is incorporated into ceramides which help to control water loss across the epidermis. Deficiency of this fatty acid can result in compromise to the skin barrier, resulting in scaly skin. Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) and its successor in the Omega 6 pathway, DGLA, play an important role due to their conversion to their metabolites such as anti-inflammatory prostaglandin E19 which supports the natural anti-inflammatory process.

This supplement is also rich in Omega 3?s? Alpha Linoleic Acid (ALA) provides a sparing effect on LA via direct competition for the delta-6-desaturase enzyme11. It is thought that this sparing effect results in more availability of LA for incorporation into ceramides to aid the skin?s moisture barrier, and less conversion to the pro-inflammatory Omega 6 Arachidonic Acid (AA)12. In addition, subsequent conversion of ALA leads to the accumulation of Omega 3 EPA which aids the body?s own anti-inflammatory process. Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) reduces pro-inflammatory AA by competing directly for the shared desaturase enzyme that converts DGLA to AA, the metabolites of EPA, such as the hydroxy-fatty acids 15-HEPE and 15-HETrE, also inhibit the 5-Lipoxygenase enzyme ? the enzyme responsible for producing pro-inflammatory substances from AA. Balancing out Arachidonic Acid with Omega 3, too much Omega 6 in the diet can lead to excess Arachidonic acid (AA) which can be converted into pro-inflammatory metabolites.

Essential fatty acid supplementation can play important roles in management of skin conditions including supporting the natural anti-inflammatory process, maintaining skin barrier function to reduce scaling of skin, reducing the production of apro-inflammatory eicosanoids and maintaining coat quality.

PLEASE NOTE: If using for the first time, YuDERM suggest that you only use half the daily recommended amount for the first week to allow your dog to get used to having something new in their diet.
