All dogs are different and the amount of food they need depends on their daily energy requirement. This varies according to many factors which includes their breed, activity level, age and environment. In broad terms raw feeding guidelines suggest feeding a daily ration of 2-3% of their bodyweight. Small breed dogs will need more, and large breed dogs will need less. Note that credible research (Richard D. Kealey et al, JAVMA, Vol 220, 2002) has shown that dogs fed a restricted diet live longer so we recommend starting at the lower end of the range and increasing the amount as necessary in order to achieve an ideal body condition.

Dogs can develop intolerances to individual protein sources (especially chicken), it is recommend feeding a varied diet of different recipes. Dogs also can get bored with the same old stuff even when it tastes as good as Cotswold Raw! Also, some of the recipes in Cotswold do not contain bone and it is recommended that you vary the diet with a recipe that does or, alternatively, giving a raw meaty bone for nutritional and recreational purposes at regular intervals

Remember to use your dog?s ideal body weight ? not necessarily its current weight.

Feeding Guide

As a general guide an adult dog needs 2-3% of their body weight per day.

Whether or not you feed an adult dog more than once a day is up to you. A dog?s digestive system is designed to have periods of plenty and then time off.

Many owners on occasion do starve their dogs and in nature, canines don?t eat every day, but there is no need to fast. The theory behind fasting dogs is that it gives their digestive systems a chance to rest. Most people who fast their dogs do so once a week. Many people give recreational bones on fast days to help their dog get through the day. The choice to fast is a personal decision.

We recommend replacing one or two meals a week with raw meaty bones and using a boneless mince on the same day for the other meal. Bones are an essential component of a dog?s diet, they contain vital nutrients such as amino acids, essential fatty acids and vitamins but also, more importantly, minerals such as calcium. It is vital that dogs ingest enough calcium and that the ratio of calcium to phosphorus is maintained at correct level. Meat contains phosphorus and bones are required to achieve the correct balance.

Being a fresh product once defrost, keep for 48-72 hours in a refrigerator. This meal should be fed raw. Thoroughly defrost the food before serving.

Always remember good hygiene practices, handle as you would any other raw meat. Wash hands and utensils after handling.
